At the invitation of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), this public Institute was invited to be represented at the meeting that took place at the headquarters of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights in Vienna, Austria, on 21 and 22 October 2025, on the theme of violence against persons with disabilities in institutions. The Technical Support Office of this INR, I.P. was represented by the area of International Relations. The interactive works of the two days had as main objectives:

• present the findings of the FRA report on institutional violence against persons with disabilities, which will be published at the end of November 2025; • discuss ways to strengthen protection, prevention and response to violence; and develop concrete proposals for national cooperation and use of the FRA report. • The official report will be published on 28 November 2025 and we will update this information with an indication to access it.

The two working days allowed dynamic working groups to be developed around the theme, focusing on what, and how, we can drive change at the national level to better protect and support people with disabilities. The brainstorming of ideas and suggestions was very intense and interesting in order to find solutions, and to strengthen the mechanisms of protection, prevention and response to violence against persons with disabilities in institutions, promoting their deinstitutionalization and independent living.
