The National Institute for Rehabilitation (INR) promoted the Youth Meeting, ‘Be Cool, Be Inclusion’, which took place on 22 April at the premises of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL). This meeting aimed to listen to young people, in a logic of understanding and better understanding their needs.

The morning was divided into two round tables, the first called “Young people and NGOPD: bridges that unite” and the second “Inclusion through the feeling of youth”.

In the first table, the theme focused on the academic universe, where it was highlighted the existence of failures in teaching, with regard to the incorporation of accessible and inclusive methods for people with disabilities, as well as the lack of knowledge of the educators and school bodies involved.

In addition to the academic area, it was also mentioned the issue of employers' quotas, which in many cases hire people with disabilities without the concern of their careers and evolution, limiting themselves to complying with the law.

On the second table, the theme focused on adapted sport, with the testimonies in surfing and judo adapted and wheelchair tennis where the importance of creating the necessary conditions for the practice of adapted sports was highlighted. It was also mentioned that social networks help to boost and sensitize society to disability issues by promoting unity, inclusion, and valuing the individual.

Overall, it was stated that there is a need to promote a conscious and fair society for people with disabilities, so that they can enjoy their social, academic and professional lives autonomously.

In the afternoon, the audience had the opportunity to dance to the sound of DJ Nelson Belém, in a relaxed atmosphere of everyone and for everyone.

This event was attended by the Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, Clara Marques Mendes.
