Competition “School Alert!” 2024/2025 – Together for Inclusion!

On 4 June, at 2.30 p.m., the Standard Basic and Secondary School of Légua, in Matosinhos, will host the National Awards Festival of the “School Alert!” Competition 2024/2025. This ceremony celebrates the commitment of Portuguese schools to inclusion, active citizenship and human rights.
Promoted by the National Institute for Rehabilitation (INR, I.P.), in partnership with the Standard Schools Group of Légua, the event highlights the most inspiring projects developed by students from all over the country, who were committed to building a more just and accessible society for all.
One contest, many voices
In the 2024/2025 edition, 2109 students and 161 teachers from 28 schools in 11 districts participated. The projects presented demonstrate creativity, empathy and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The choice of the host school is not by chance: Escola Básica Padrão da Légua won the 1st Prize of Category 1 (Pre-School Education and 1st Cycle of Basic Education), among the 30 applications submitted in this 21st edition of the competition.
During the ceremony, the winning projects will be presented and trophies, diplomas and monetary awards will be presented to the schools, teachers and distinguished students:
In Category 1: Pre-School Education and 1st Cycle of Basic Education, the 1st Prize was awarded to the ‘Learning and Growing in Inclusion’ project of the Standard Basic School of Légua, the Standard Group of Schools of Légua, Matosinhos. The 2nd Prize went to the project ‘Put yourself in the Other’s shoes – for accessibility in the parking lot’ of the Basic School of Aires, of the Palmela School Group.
In Category 2: 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, the 1st Prize went to the project ‘Pictocar – communicating with pictograms’, of the Escola Básica de Aires, of the Agrupamento de Escolas de Palmela, Palmela.
In Category 3: Secondary school, the 1st Prize was awarded to the project “Together, we raise our voice for more and better accessibility in Figueira da Foz!”, from Bernardino Machado Secondary School, Figueira Mar School Group, Figueira da Foz. The 2nd Prize went to the project “Inclusive Tourism in Restoration” of the Infante D. Henrique Professional School, Porto.
The first places in each category receive EUR 2 000, the second EUR 1 000 and the third EUR 750.
Since its creation in 2003/2004, the ‘School Alert!’ has involved more than 30 000 pupils, 4 000 teachers and more than 1 000 schools, promoting reflection and action on the inclusion of people with disabilities.
A celebration of citizenship and inclusion
The national jury is composed of representatives of reference entities in the area of education and inclusion, such as the National Education Council, the Directorate-General for School Establishments and Pro-Inclusion – National Association of Special Education Teachers, in addition to the Portuguese Autism Federation, the Portuguese Neuromuscular Association and the INR, I.P. itself.
