IX American Ibero Forum Includes: “Employment of persons with disabilities: a matter of law and talent” 12-13 May 2025 Brasilia, Brazil

The National Institute of Rehabilitation, I.P. participated IX American Ibero Forum Includes: “Employment of persons with disabilities: a matter of law and talent” 2025, which took place on 12 and 13 May in Brasilia, where the advances and challenges of full and productive employment and decent work for persons with disabilities in line with Sustainable Development Goal 8 of the 2030 Agenda were discussed.
The programming of the IX Forum Includes2025 gathered evidence, concrete experiences and proposals for international cooperation to strengthen the region’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, in particular target 8.5: “full and productive employment with equal pay for all persons, including persons with disabilities.”
At the closing ceremony of the event, the Director-General of the National Association of Social Welfare Servants (Anasps), Alexandre Barreto Lisboa, highlighted the importance of international cooperation, noting that these types of initiatives reinforce the need and importance of working together for a fairer, more solidary and inclusive Ibero-America.
During the two working days, the focus was given to the importance of the participation of people with disabilities in the labour market, highlighting that it allows:
- Maximise human resources, as the productive commitment of persons with disabilities increases individual well-being and contributes to the productivity of the nation;
- Promote human dignity and social cohesion as employment brings social and personal benefits, added to a sense of human dignity and social cohesion.
All individuals should be free to choose the direction of their lives, to fully develop their talents and capabilities.
- It should also accommodate the increasing numbers of people with disabilities in the population of productive age, as the prevalence of disability is expected to increase in the coming decades due to the growth of chronic conditions, combined with advances in health and rehabilitation services that preserve and prolong life.
In addition, the ageing of the world population should also contribute to this increase in the prevalence of disability.
The award ceremony took place at the end of the event. “Iberoamerica Incluye 2024” It recognises prominent business practices in labour inclusion.
