On October 8, the Library of Alcântara (Library José Dias Coelho) hosted the session “Multiformat and Inclusion: The new era of accessible literature’, a joint initiative of the Library of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P. (INR) and the Alcântara Library itself, in partnership with the Resource Centre for Digital Inclusion, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (CRID) – IPL and the Centre for Education and Development António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira, of Casa Pia de Lisboa (CED AACF). The session, directed to techniques of the Network of Municipal Libraries of Lisbon, aimed to disseminate good practices and resources that promote inclusion and universal access to reading.

The opening was in charge of Helena Alexandre, Director of Services of the INR's UIFD, and Ana Santos, Director of the Alcântara Library, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between public institutions in promoting a more inclusive culture.

This was followed by a set of technical interventions, led by Professor Célia Sousa, from CRID-IPL, and by Paula Liques and Sandra Barbosa, from CED AACF. Speakers shared practical examples, resources and accessible formats that promote inclusion in reading, thus demonstrating how libraries can play an essential role in democratising access to literature.

The closing of the session was in charge of the President of the CD of the INR, Sónia Esperto, who reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to accessibility and equal opportunities in access to culture, launching the challenge to the continuity of this partnership in the creation of collaborative projects that reinforce this mission.

The session took place in an environment of sharing, commitment and reflection, highlighting the commitment of the institutions involved in the construction of more inclusive libraries, capable of responding to the needs of all citizens, regardless of their capacities and condition.

CRID, through Professor Célia Sousa, offered a set of multiformat books to the INR, which we invite you to come and meet at our Library.

The partnership between INR, CRID-IPL and CED AACF will continue to drive activities that promote access to reading for all.
