Census

Updated: 23-10-2024

In the 2021 Census, as in 2011, the methodology used to record the number of persons with some disability/disability was based on a data collection based on the indication of the degree of difficulty experienced by individuals to perform certain actions.

Therefore, in the results of these census operations, data are available regarding the difficulties experienced when performing the following actions:

  • See;
  • Listening;
  • Walking or climbing steps;
  • memory or concentration;
  • Taking a bath or dressing yourself;
  • Understand others or make yourself understood.

For a better contextualization of these data, it is suggested to consult, in the INE Portal, from the publication “What the Censuses tell us about the difficulties experienced by people with disabilities” (PDF file), based on the results of the XVI General Population Census and VI General Housing Census (2021 Census).

More detailed statistical information can be found at Census clearance tables, where each XLS file contains one sheet with the data for the national total (up to NUTS II level), and one sheet for each NUTS II region with the geographical breakdown up to parish
