Workshop “Affirmative Clinical Practice with Persons with Disabilities”, aimed at mental health professionals, lasting 6 hours (3h + 3h).

Starting from an affirmative perspective, anchored in human rights and the philosophy of independent life, this training aims to promote a more humanized, ethical and conscious clinical practice in the psychological follow-up of people with disabilities. Although many professionals consider having a welcoming and judgmentless posture, they may inadvertently reproduce attitudes and capacitistic practices that cause harm to the therapeutic relationship and the well-being of people themselves, often due to ignorance of the specificities of their experiences and needs.

The aim of this training is to support professionals in critical reflection on the experiences of people with disabilities, the barriers they face and the impact these dimensions can have on mental health and the therapeutic process. The aim is not only to avoid the reproduction of stigmas and prejudices, but also to actively contribute to promoting social justice, self-determination and the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Throughout the workshop, the following topics will be addressed: ➡ក Conceptual models of disability and their implications, both in people's lives and in clinical practice and in the way professionals understand and intervene with this population; ➡ក Good practices in clinical follow-up to persons with disabilities, aligned with recommendations from the scientific community and with an intervention ethic that recognises persons with disabilities as experts in their own experiences; ➡ក Development of practical and cultural skills in working with people with disabilities, adjusted to the diversity of their experiences.

We believe this is an important opportunity to contribute to better prepared mental health services, aligned with scientific research, the community of people with disabilities and their rights. In this regard, we would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation in disseminating the NGOPDs.
