The National Institute for Rehabilitation (INR) organizes the exhibition Braille – Points that Illuminate Worlds, which will take place at the National Institute for Rehabilitation, in the Orlando Monteiro Auditorium, located at Av. Count of Valbom, 63 in Lisbon. The exhibition can be visited from 7to 10 January 2025, between the 10 a.m. and 5 p.m..

In this exhibition, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Braille system and World Braille Day, celebrated on 4 January, we highlight materials and equipment that promote the inclusion of blind and low-vision people in areas such as education, health, work, culture, civic participation, orientation and mobility, sport and leisure.

In the exhibition, you can learn about the history of Louis Braille and the context that gave rise to his revolutionary system, as well as its evolution and adoption around the world.

The exhibition features a virtual version, which includes historical objects, interactive documents and testimonials from people who use Braille in their daily lives. This digital exhibition, in addition to complementing the physical exhibition, focuses on how current technologies are integrating Braille, expanding the possibilities of communication and participation. Access the virtual version of this exhibition HERE.

Throughout 2025, a programme of activities aimed at audiences of all ages, in particular children and young people, will be promoted with the aim of fostering reflection and promoting knowledge of Braille.

Join us on this journey into the world of Braille and discover how small dots can light the way to inclusion and accessibility.
