Guided visit to the play Insculturas do Monte Eiró 17 May, Saturday, 3.30 p.m. The Soares do Reis National Museum (MNSR), in partnership with the Museums of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (MuseusFMUP), promotes a visit to the play "Insculturas do Monte Eiró" / "Pedra com insculturas", first described in 1924 by Pedro Vitorino, doctor, former student of the Medical-Surgical School of Porto (ancestral of FMUP) and, later, Conservator and Deputy Director of the Municipal Museum of Porto. This activity will thus celebrate the crossing of times and people between the two institutions. The visit aims to explore the archaeological heritage of the MNSR and its relationship with medicine through the interpretation of the bas-relief present in this granite monolith, dating from the Chalcolithic period, coming from the Marco de Canaveses and transported by boat to Porto, in 1910, by the Douro River. Guided visit by Catarina Janeiro and José Paulo Andrade, from the FMUP Museums.
Twilight Guided Tour 17 May, Saturday, 8 p.m. Representing the twilight, the dawn, the night, finally, the absence of light, was always a challenge for painters. How can we make visible what by its nature prevents us from seeing? The twilight is also inevitably evocation of the beginning or the end of the cycle (of the day, of life...). With the approach of the night we move away from the buzz of day-to-day, we retreat, we confront ourselves with loneliness and with the dream... or with the nightmare and, therefore, so often its representation is predisposed to reflective, melancholic or even tragic resonances. On Museum Night we propose a “twilight” conversation around some works on display and others taken from the reserve especially for this moment.
Guided Tour The playful in Romanticism 18 May, Sunday, 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. | Partnership: Soares dos Reis National Museum and Romantic Museum Starting from the works ‘Cena de Aldeia’, by Leonel Marques, and ‘Procissão’, by August Roquemont, we leave the Music Room of the Soares do Reis National Museum towards the Museum of the Romantic, pausing on the essence and meaning of play as a factor of cultural life and highlighting its presence in the transition in the Port of 1800.
Guided Visit Remedy: from painting to machine 18 May, Sunday, 14.45-15.50 | Partnership: Soares dos Reis National Museum and Museum of the Faculty of Pharmacy A visit that explores the link between art and industry and the relationship between artistic expression and technological progress.
