International Noise Awareness Day: 28 April
Updated : 28/04/2021
O International Noise Awareness Day It is celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of April and aims to raise awareness of the problem of noise in cities. Continued exposure to noise is considered a public health problem. Noise is responsible for contributing to stress, hearing problems and poor quality of life in cities. At the environmental level, it has a great interference in communication in the animal world.
Noise is the leading cause of hearing loss. The number of people with hearing loss is increasing. According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.1 billion young people worldwide are at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe hearing habits. This is due to the fact that today, in developed countries, one in two people, between the ages of 12 and 35, regularly use portable music devices, such as smartphones, MP3s or others, with levels of sound considered dangerous.
The average volume at which people listen to music on portable devices is between 75 and 105 decibels (dB), but whenever the sound exceeds 80 dB we may be causing irreparable damage to our ear. For these young people, 40% are often exposed to potentially dangerous sound levels in various places of leisure such as discotheques, bars, concert halls, football stadiums or sports pavilions. In these places people are exposed to sound volumes between 100 and 120 dB, often for several hours.
Noise is not sound, and sound when it becomes noise is dangerous to our health! So, on this day and always, think about it every time you remember that noise is bad for you and your health!
