Cyclist to Ride 1,300 Kms as Warning for Asperger's Syndrome
Updated : 14/07/2021
The cyclist Filipe Gaivão joins the Portuguese Association of Asperger Syndrome (APSA) through the challenge that will put him to pedal through the country, in favor of people with Asperger Syndrome.
This initiative runs from 13 to 24 July. It will be 1,300 kilometers, connecting Braga to Lisbon, with passage through cities such as Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Évora, or Setúbal.
It is not for the first time that Filipe Gaivão joins a solidarity project. In 2019, she pedaled for Multiple Sclerosis. It was intended to draw attention to the existence of this disease and the impact on the lives of people who carry it, highlighting their needs and underlining, at the same time, the importance of social inclusion.
APSA will accompany the cyclist in some stages, where it will also present awareness sessions on asperger syndrome and family care. Some public figures also wanted to be associated with this cause.
This entity was created in 2003. It is a non-profit institution that aims to explain, sensitize and dedramatize what this autism spectrum disorder is. Since 2015, it has integrated 45 young people into the labour market
Piedade Lebanon Monteiro, President of APSA said: "This challenge is an opportunity to decentralise our support by sharing the knowledge we have been acquiring about Asperger's syndrome. As we often say, this is a difference that is not in the face, but there is!”
