PORTUGAL is World and European Champion in Wheelchair

Portugal is the world and European champion in wheelchair handball, after winning 18-10 against the Netherlands in the match for the titles in dispute.

The competition took place at the Pavilhão dos Pousos, in Leiria, and in its last meeting had the benches full of public in the support and consecration of the National Team.

On the way to the final, Portugal began by winning, on Friday, to the Netherlands (20-10) and Romania (21-10) and Saturday to India (18-13), in the three games of group B, the initial round. In the semi-finals, played on Sunday morning, the team led by Danilo Ferreira won again against India, 23-11.

In the aftermath of the victory, Danilo Ferreira, national coach, made statements: - “First a word to my athletes and staff. According to a word for all the delegations that were in this competition played in Portugal. Then, a thank you to the Handball Federation of Portugal for an excellent event and to the rest of the organization. Portugal is World and European Champion, it is worth investing in these athletes and in this sport, we will continue to work responsibly to maintain ourselves at this level. Thank you to this fantastic audience, to my family and to all the athletes who often give up being with us to represent our country.

Special reference for Ricardo Queirós who scored a total of 37 goals, having been consecrated as the top scorer of the tournament.

It should also be noted that the National Team, led by Danilo Ferreira, won four medals in the past editions of the European Championships: one Gold (2018) and three Silvers (2015, 2016 and 2019).
