Best Practices in Evora

This Summer OKAY YOU INCLUDE YOU

OKUP@-TE INCLUDE-TE

The Municipal Program OKUP@-TE INCLUIR-TE is a response to families with children, or students, with marked and persistent changes in communication, interaction, cognition or learning (children with educational needs, under article 10 - Additional Measures of Decree-Law 54/2018 of Inclusive Education). This inclusive program arose from a need presented to the Municipality of Évora in the spring of last year, by a group of parents, guardians, caregivers, for not finding in the territory an answer to the occupation of their children during periods of school interruption.

The Municipality of Évora assumed, from the first meeting with the Parents' Group, the intention to resolve the request, and, in close collaboration with the University of Évora and the 4 School Groupings of the city, the SER A BRINCAR E Program was the first experience and was successful: the objective of the Programme was met, ensuring support for caregivers during school breaks, with the promotion of qualified activities that promoted the well-being of each child, as well as the non-decapitalisation of skills.

After the first successful experience in the Municipal Program BE A BRINCAR E (summer 2022), it emerged as opportune to develop a leisure occupation response integrated in the already existing Municipal Program OKUP@-TE, in order to ensure that ALL CHILDREN have the same opportunities. To date, and after the pilot experience, three inclusive editions of the OKUP@-TE Programme have been held during school breaks in the 2022/2023 school year. In total, about 15 children were included under Article 10 - Additional Measures of Decree-Law 54/2018 of Inclusive Education.

For the Municipality of Évora, the most important acquisitions are made in a heterogeneous and inclusive context, taking into account not only the potential of functionality of each child, but also an education for citizenship.

St. John's Fair

The São João Fair takes place in Évora, at Rossio de São Brás, every year, always starting at the end of June. It has been part of the municipality's identity for more than 500 years and makes known what is done and what is best in Évora, and Alentejo.

This year, the Fair took an important step on the path of inclusion of people with disabilities.

In addition to the increase in the number of places reserved for People with Reduced Mobility and adapted sanitary facilities, the entrances to the restaurants and shops allowed easy access to its interior through ramps, two areas of the venue were qualified with a raised platform for better viewing of the events and the voice off of the Children's Space, the official opening of the São João Fair and three shows, were translated into Portuguese Sign Language.

The Municipality of Évora, aware of the way still to go, is proud of the differentiating measures and services, for a more inclusive experience at the São João Fair.
