World Autism Awareness Day
Updated : 02/04/2020
O World Autism Awareness Day It is celebrated annually on April 2. The date was established by the United Nations (UN) on 18 December 2007.
Autism – official technical name: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – is a health condition characterised by media deficit (socialisation and verbal and non-verbal communication) and behaviour (restricted interest and repetitive movements). There is not just one, but many subtypes of the disorder. As broad as the term ‘spectrum’ is used, by the various levels of impairment – there are people with other diseases and associated conditions (comorbidities), such as intellectual disability and epilepsy, to people with a common life, some do not even know that they are autistic, as they have never been diagnosed.
The causes of autism increasingly point to genetics.
Some signs of autism can appear from a year and a half of age, even earlier, in more severe cases. It is very important to start treatment as soon as possible – even if it is still only a clinical suspicion, still without a closed diagnosis, because the sooner the intervention is started, the greater the chances of improving the quality of life of the person.
The symbol of autism is the puzzle, which denotes its diversity and complexity.
