Since 27 December 2020 whereas in Portugal the vaccination process started and continued throughout 2021.
What are the COVID-19 vaccines currently in Portugal?
The contractors for Portugal are AstraZeneca, BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna, Curevac, Janssen and Sanofi/GSK. Contracts are being negotiated with other companies that will be able to supply vaccines to our country.
Is there safety in these COVID-19 vaccines?
Yes. In the development and approval of COVID-19 vaccines, as for any other medicine, their efficacy, safety and quality are ensured through clinical trials and rigorous evaluation by the European Medicines Agency.
Like any medicine, COVID-19 vaccines can also trigger undesirable effects. The most common effects are mild, are described in the package leaflet of each vaccine and include: injection site reaction, headache, muscle or joint pain, fever, feeling tired, nausea and general malaise. These effects usually resolve spontaneously within 3 days.
Despite this, vaccination is not mandatory, it is only voluntary, i.e. only those who wish to be vaccinated are vaccinated. However, health authorities strongly recommend vaccination against COVID-19 as a means to control the pandemic.
It should be noted that, however, vaccination against COVID-19 allows us to protect ourselves against the disease and its complications.
