Multi-format leaflet – “Care at the Beach”

Yesterday, 4 June, the multi-format leaflet – ‘Care in the Beach’ – was presented, aimed at children and people with visual and intellectual disabilities.
With easy language, braille and pictograms, the leaflet highlights the importance of using an identification bracelet, care to be taken in sun exposure, adequate hydration, safety measures to prevent accidents, as well as information of each color of the flag hoisted on the beach.
At the event, Célia Sousa, professor at the School of Education and Social Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and author of this project, highlighted the importance of partnership with health services in providing accessible information.
Hélder Carreira, from the Public Health Unit of Leiria and co-author of the project, classified this initiative as a promoter of citizenship.
José Carlos Gomes, Director of the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, said that this resource is a paradigm of open knowledge, which arises from the needs felt by the community.
Finally, on behalf of the INR, Luís Oriola undertook to translate the leaflet into Portuguese Sign Language in video format.
