Did you know that CITE was the national interlocutor for the purposes of Portugal's admission to EPIC?
Portugal joined in June this year the EPIC-International Coalition for Equal Pay, an organization created at the end of 2017 with the leadership of the ILO-International Labour Organization, the United Nations Department of Women and the OECD-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
EPIC brings together countries committed to a policy of materializing equal pay through concrete measures and aims to support member states to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, namely the crossing of SDG 8 that calls for the application of the principle of equal pay for equal work or work of equal value with SDG 5 that aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Portugal became the 11th member of EPIC, joining others such as Canada, Germany and Iceland and also a wide range of public entities, social partners, companies, and other entities that operate in this area.
Membership of EPIC depends on compliance with 11 criteria relating to the existence of legislation and public policy measures promoting equal pay, including legislation aligned with the ILO Convention on Equal Remuneration, or public policies promoting equal pay. Portugal, which has travelled an important path in this plan in recent years, has fulfilled and complies with all the requirements for joining EPIC.
