Accessibility of television programme services

By the decision of the Regulatory Authority for the Media - ERC, Deliberation ERC/2016/260 OUT-TV of 30 November 2016, the screen space reserved for sign language interpreters shall comply with the following rules respecting the rights, freedoms and personal guarantees of persons with disabilities, measures which became effective as of 1 January 2020:
- The area reserved on the screen for the interpreter, or window, should occupy a space of not less than 1/6 of the screen, as documented in the figure 1. - The extent of the overlap should ensure that body and facial expressions are easily visible. - The colour of the dress worn by the interpreter should allow the best contrast with the background and the background should use a smooth and sober colour.

A Regulatory Authority for the Media - ERC, recommends ‘cooperation between television operators, associations representing people with hearing difficulties and technicians of recognised merit with a view to systematising rules of good practice on sign language interpretation in television, its possible codification and the quality control of it.’
