Updated : 10/02/2020

The Mission Structure for the Promotion of Accessibility, whose approval was published in the Official Gazette on 4 February, embodied by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 4/2020, will be the body responsible for initiating the work that will lead to the elaboration of the National Plan for the Promotion of Accessibility, one of the main commitments inscribed in the Program of the XXII Constitutional Government.

This Mission Structure will have a three-year mandate and will be led by a coordinator who will be appointed later this February.

Among the main responsibilities of the Mission Structure for the Promotion of Accessibility is the analysis and implementation of the report prepared by the Commission for the Promotion of Accessibility. This document, finalised at the end of January, provides, for the first time, data on accessibility in public buildings in Portugal.

It will be the task of the Mission Structure to supervise the correction of the shortcomings identified in this report, which analysed a total of 3,806 buildings and which makes a set of recommendations to the services of the Central Administration on the creation of accessibility.

The Mission Structure will also be responsible for providing training in the area of accessibility, producing guidance manuals for the Central and Local Administration, expressing recommendations to municipalities on accessibility, providing support to the National Institute for Rehabilitation and the Inspectorate-General of Finance with regard to the monitoring of compliance with technical accessibility standards or providing advice on the implementation of projects.

The report drawn up by the Commission for the Promotion of Accessibility is available at website of INR, I.P.
