COVID-19: Social Security warns of scams

Updated : 19/03/2020

ATTENTION: The Social Security Institute warns that there may be possible situations of fraud in the current situation that we live in the context of the COVID-19.

In order to prevent fraud and theft by individuals who may pretend to be Social Security employees to collect amounts unduly paid, arising from pensions or other Social Security benefits or from contacts in which individuals say they are tax inspectors or Social Security inspectors, who state that citizens have been "fined" by causing them to show the money they have in their homes or to make ATM withdrawals, to pay the amounts due, we inform you that:

  • Social Security does not award premiums or gratuities;
  • Social Security employees do not go to people's homes to claim or collect any monetary or other personal value.

We therefore warn of the need to immediately contact the police forces whenever individuals go to their homes, on behalf of Social Security, to request money or collect amounts owed.
