MAVI Monthly Report – March 2020

Updated : 13/05/2020

The monthly activity of the Independent Life Support Centers (CAVI) that are part of the pilot project of the Independent Life Support Model (MAVI), is reported to the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P., based on the completion of the monitoring grids by each of the institutions.

According to those monitoring reports, one institution started providing personal assistance in March 2020, and only one project had not yet started providing that service, so there were 34 CAVIs in operation.

During March, the month to which the data refer, the effects of the SARS-COVID19 virus began to be felt in Portugal, and the national state of emergency was declared on 18 March, which resulted in a very atypical month in terms of CAVI operation.

821 people were supported, of which 375 in the North Region, 173 in the Centre Region, 96 in the Alentejo Region (644 people supported in the POISE territory), 37 in the Algarve Region and 140 in the Lisbon Region.

Of the 821 people supported, 412 are female and 409 are male.

Individuals aged between 16 and 97 were supported, with an average age of 45.

From the start of the project until 31 March 2020, 568,470 (five hundred and sixty-eight thousand four hundred and seventy) hours were provided, of which 451,186 (four hundred and fifty-one thousand one hundred and eighty-six) hours were provided in the territory covered by POISE, 63,325 (sixty-three thousand three hundred and twenty-five) hours in the Algarve Region and 53,959 (fifty-three thousand nine hundred and fifty-nine) hours in the Lisbon Region.
