2024 Beach + Accessible Award Ceremony

On 14 March, the Lisbon Tourism Exchange will host the award ceremony for the “Praia + Acessível” Award 2024, an initiative of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P. (INR), the Portuguese Environment Agency, I.P. (APA) and Turismo de Portugal. I.P. (TP).

Created in 2009, this award aims to distinguish coastal and inland beaches that, having been awarded the flag Accessible Beach, Beach For All!, demonstrate an exemplary commitment to the conditions of accessibility and inclusion, becoming national references in the reception of people with disabilities.

The evaluation of the applications was carried out by the jury composed of representatives of the organizing entities, INR, APA and TP, as well as the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos, the Associação Bandeira Azul de Ambiente e Educação and the company IACESS, sponsor of the award.

This year's awards will be given to the following beaches:

  • 1st Coastal Beach Award: Ribeira d’Ilhas beach, municipality of Mafra
  • 1st Prize Praia Interior: Ribeira Beach – Albufeira do Azibo, municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros
  • Mention of Good Practice: Buarcos Beach, municipality of Figueira da Foz

This award reaffirms the importance of accessibility in beach tourism and encourages municipalities to continue investing in creating truly inclusive beaches for all.
