The Rodrigues White Prize (PBR), administered by the National Library of Portugal (BNP), was established by the Pro-Cinquentenário da Morte de Branco Rodrigues Commission in 1976, with the aim of promoting and valuing the participation of visually impaired citizens in literary and scientific production, distinguishing the author of the best work published in each three-year period.
In this 14th edition, in partnership with the Association of the Blind and Amblyopic of Portugal (ACAPO), BNP marks the centenary of the death of José Cândido Branco Rodrigues (1861-1926). The PBR jury is composed of Rui Magno Pinto, Teresa Seruya and Fernando José Abreu Matos. The value of the PBR to be awarded will be € 3000 (three thousand Euros).
Portuguese citizens with visual impairment can apply to the PBR, proven through the Multipurpose Medical Disability Certificate (AMIM). The works admitted to the competition must meet all of the following requirements:
• Authorship of one or more visually impaired persons; • Written in Portuguese; • Published in the three calendar years preceding the application (i.e. between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2025); • No awards or distinctions awarded by other entities.
