The Estoril Autodrome, will be stage, from June 9 to 13, the Paracycling World Championships. This prestigious event is organized by the Portuguese Cycling Federation and the Municipality of Cascais and takes place a few days after the European Championships, where Portugal won six medals.
This sporting event will be attended by more than 300 athletes from 39 countries competing for the 53 world titles. In competition there will be four different categories that will compete in the background events, individual time trial and team relay (or relay race per team). The courses will be made in several laps, and the number will vary depending on the class in competition.
There will be 13 Portuguese who have a unique opportunity to compete at the highest level. The Portuguese representation is particularly numerous because the race is disputed in national territory. It is spearheaded by the four runners that integrate different levels of the Paralympic high performance programs and is the perfect opportunity for athletes to prepare for the Paralympic Games, which will take place in a few weeks' time.
Na modalidade do paraciclismo, o melhor resultado português de sempre foi conseguido por Luís Costa, que obteve a medalha de bronze na prova de contrarrelógio de classe H5, nos Campeonatos do Mundo realizados na África do Sul, em 2017.
In the presentation of the event, the President of the Portuguese Cycling Federation, Delmino Pereira, said: “We are facing a passionate, perfectly inclusive World Cup that has greatly rewarded our sport. We want more and more cycling for everyone, more and more inclusive. It will certainly be a great sporting spectacle.”
