On October 9, 2017, Decree-Law No. 129/2017 was published, establishing the Model Support Program for Independent Living, with the essential objective of ensuring conditions for the autonomy and self-determination of persons with disabilities, through the provision of personal assistance to support the performance of tasks that they cannot perform on their own. These are fundamental assumptions of full inclusion and effective participation in all life contexts.
Four years after the entry into force of the law establishing MAVI, a model that embodies a paradigm shift in public policies in the area of disability, consistent with the promotion of the human rights of people with disabilities and, therefore, focused on people and their needs, with a significant impact on their lives and their families, it is appropriate to take stock of the implementation of the model, its limits, difficulties, but also opportunities and positive dimensions and discuss the future definitive model.
To mark this date, will take place on October 20 at 2:30 pm, the event of the 4th Anniversary of MAVI, where there will be a reflection on MAVI, currently in pilot projects, and the challenges and opportunities that appear for the design and implementation of the Independent Life Support Model – Personal Assistance for Portugal, in the path of building a more just, cohesive and inclusive Portugal.
The event will take place at the Capitol in Lisbon.
The program of this event and its registration form will be announced soon.
