MAVI Monthly Report – August 2021

The monthly activity of the Independent Life Support Centers (CAVI), which are part of the pilot project of the Independent Life Support Model (MAVI), is reported to the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P., based on the completion of the monitoring grids by each of the institutions.

According to these monitorings, in August 2021, in the 35 projects in operation, 869 people were supported, of which 393 in the North Region, 172 in the Centre Region, 101 in the Alentejo Region (666 people supported in the POISE territory), 36 in the Algarve Region and 167 in the Lisbon Region.

Of the 869 people supported, 448 are female and 421 male, people aged between 17 and 93 were supported (Table 4), with an average age of 45.

From the start of the project until 31 August 2021, a total of 1,672,770 (one million six hundred and seventy-two thousand seven hundred and seventy) hours were provided, of which 1,251,705 (one million two hundred and fifty-one thousand seven hundred and five) hours were provided in the territory covered by POISE, 148,285 (one hundred and forty-eight thousand two hundred and eighty-five) hours in the Algarve Region and 272,779 (two hundred and seventy-two thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine) hours in the Lisbon Region.

In August there was a slight decrease in the number of active PIAPs (869). Fewer hours of personal assistance were also recorded compared to July, which may be related to the fact that this is a preferred month for holidays for both personal assistants and recipients of personal assistance. This was a trend observed in a similar period in 2020. However, the number of suspended PIAPs decreased compared to the previous month and the number of contracted personal assistants increased, pointing to an effort by CAVIs not to interrupt the provision of the service during the holidays.
