March 6 marks the European Day of Speech Therapy.

The aim is to highlight the importance of prevention and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders, from the perspective of Quality of Life.

The event was established by the Standing Liaison Committee of Speech Therapists and Logopedists of the European Union (CPLOL) in 2004.

Speech Therapy works in the prevention, evaluation, intervention and investigation of human communication disorders, encompassing the functions associated with the comprehension and expression of oral and written language

Speech Therapy also intervenes at the level of swallowing, in order to ensure adequate nutrition.
