Also on this occasion will be released the name of the Head of Mission to this important sports competition. The Deaflympic Games Caxias do Sul 2021 will take place in Brazil from May 1 to 15, 2022. Nearly 4,500 athletes from 100 countries are expected to compete in the 21 modalities of the deaflympic calendar, distributed over 18 arenas of competition.

This is Portugal's eighth participation in the Deaflympic Games. So far the national athletes have counted a total of 13 medals.

The event is organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). It was established in 1924 and in 1955 was admitted by the International Olympic Committee as an international federation.

To participate in the Games, athletes must have lost 55 decibels in their "best ear" and are not allowed to wear any hearing aids or implants.
