World Atopic Dermatitis Day – 14 September
Updated : 14/09/2022
September 14th marks the World Atopic Dermatitis Day, a date celebrated for the first time in 2018 and which aims to raise awareness of a pathology that has a great impact on the quality of life of patients.
Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. The main visible effects are redness, oedema (swelling), pruritus (itching), dry skin, cracks, scaly lesions, crusts and exudation.
Various emotional effects are also often associated, such as feelings of helplessness and frustration, anxiety and depression. People living with AD also suffer from associated comorbidities such as asthma, allergic rhinitis and food allergies.
It is estimated that this disease affects between 10 and 20% of children, and between 1 and 3% of adults worldwide. The increase in cases is the “price to pay for a lifestyle surrounded by pollution”, according to one expert.
Atopic dermatitis cannot be prevented, but it is important to adopt measures that protect the skin, reduce dryness and keep it healthier.
