January 4 is World Braille Day

Braille is used in all five parts of the world.

Today, January 4, is World Braille Day.

This is a date marked by United Nations General Assembly It was proclaimed in November 2018 to raise awareness of the importance of the invention of the Braille code as a means of communication for the full realisation of the human rights of blind and low-sighted people.

The World Health Organization estimates that about 1.3 billion people live with some vision disorder.

Despite Louis Braille's efforts, his code took time to become the standard literacy of blind people. It is most likely one of the greatest contributions in Western history to the education and emancipation of blind or low-sighted people.
