On April 8, the book "Portraits of Independent Life" was launched at the Concert Café of the São Francisco Convent in Coimbra, in the presence of the President of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, Sónia Esperto, and the Coordinator of the Technical Team of the Independent Life Support Model, Fernanda Sousa.

This work describes a crucial moment in the lives of 13 recipients of the Independent Life Support Service of APCC - Associação de Paralisia Cerebral de Coimbra, under the MAVI pilot project that, from 2019, began to allow the provision of personal assistance to people with disabilities, for the first time in Portugal.

The event provided moments of reflection with the authors and protagonists, on the journey made up to that moment and what followed immediately, but also the path taken since, in 2024, the support services for Independent Living were constituted as a social response.

This event, co-organized by APCC, Municipality of Coimbra/Convento São Francisco and BLUE HOUSE, is part of the celebrations of the 50 Years of the Association, which take place throughout the year.

The book “Portraits of Independent Life” was published with the support of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, I.P. and is now available from the INR Library. Get to know these and other titles HERE.
