3 years of Independent Life Support Model

3 years ago, exactly on October 9, the Support Model for Independent Living was instituted through the publication of Decree-Law No. 129/2017.
This Model has as philosophy a paradigm shift in public policies of inclusion of people with disabilities as it seeks to reverse the trend towards institutionalization and family dependence, in order to promote autonomy, self-determination and active participation in society of these people, through the provision of personal assistance
The implementation of this Model through pilot projects promoted by the Independent Life Support Centres (CAVI), which are structures responsible for providing personal assistance to people with disabilities.
After three years, 35 Independent Life Support Centres (CAVI) are in operation across the continental territory, currently supporting more than 800 people with disabilities, in various activities and contexts. More than 800 people are supported by about 570 personal assistants, mediated by 96 members of CAVI's technical teams.
More than 842,704 hours of personal assistance have been provided so far.
It is a model that has changed the lives of people with disabilities and their families, as it has provided the realization of various activities autonomously.
